About Jeri
I learned a lot of things when I was growing up. The obvious things — reading, doing math, learning to tie my shoes, saying “please” and “thank you” — I mastered like most everyone else. These, and a lot of other handy skills have served me well in my life. Unfortunately, I got very good at one not so handy skill: feeling guilt. This was quite a problem because I had not developed any skills for how to stop feeling guilt when it was unreasonable or destructive.
At some point in my life I realized that not everyone had the same struggles with guilt that I did, and I started getting very curious about why that was. I read a lot of books, and some of them offered some really reasonable advice. But I still couldn’t quite find the off switch on my very efficient guilt-making machine. In desperation, I finally went to see a counselor who helped me to know the difference between healthy guilt and crippling guilt and, perhaps most importantly, how to tame the crippling guilt and get on with my life.
Today, I combine what I learned on my own journey with my formal training in clinical psychology to help others who struggle with excessive guilt and the bad feelings about themselves that often accompanies guilt and self-doubt. Helping people develop the ability to know peace and self-assurance has become a rewarding way for me to help make the world just a little bit better.
If you’re curious about how I might be able to help you in your struggle with guilt or feeling badly about yourself, please feel free to call or email.
